UT! Legendary creator of Flaming Carrot Comics, Bob Burden, will make an appearance at New York Comic Con this Friday and Saturday. He joins Greg and Fake, the team behind indie hit Santos Sisters, at their table G6 in the artists alley. The three are currently collaborating on a Santos Sisters/Flaming Carrot crossover mini series. Burden will appear and sign books on Friday and Saturday at 3pm.
For folks unfamiliar with Palookaville’s greatest hero, the Flaming Carrot is one of the all time great absurd superhero comedy series. It tells the story of a man who reads 5000 comics in one sitting to win a bet, sustains brain damage from doing so, and thereafter becomes the Flaming Carrot. Burden took inspiration from the wackiness of Golden Age comics and cranked those stories up to eleven. Side characters from the series would be used in the 1999 film Mystery Men.
This appearance is part of Greg and Fake’s tour to promote Santos Sisters volume 2 from Fantagraphics along with the new mini series. This tour of comic book stores has seen them travel across the country, joined by other comics creators at different stops. Burden will join them on the final date of the tour in Atlanta, Georgia.
Outside of the crossover miniseries, no word on any new Flaming Carrot comics. Which is a shame because the world could use more of everyone’s favorite carrot headed, flipper wearing blue collar superhero. However, Burden does have a comic, Dynamite Girl, coming out from Antarctic Press that sees publication early next year. Regardless, make sure to stop by the booth to meet this legendary creator of indie comics during his appearance at the con!
