Supernatural comedies are rare on TV, but What We Do in the Shadows is arguably helping to pave the way. Renewed for a third season, WWDitS has a lot of hype around it, especially since its 8 Emmy nominations. Even though they haven’t started shooting yet, the producers and cast had some hints at the show’s future.

The panel was hosted by Kathryn VanArendonk, with executive producers Paul Simms and Stefani Robinson in attendance, along with cast members Kayvan Novak, Matt Berry, Natasia Demetriou, Harvey Guillén, and Mark Proksch. The panel kicked off with VanArendonk asking the panelists about what would happen if the vampires were stuck inside during our current situation.

Novak said his character Nandor would probably just get his familiar, Guillermo, to order delivery, and Nandor would dispatch the delivery driver. There would be a lack of victims for the vampires. Guillén said there would be more house meetings than usual. Simms said that Guillermo would be wearing a mask at all times, which would lead to the vampires’ confusion.

Proksch said that Colin Robinson would most definitely be a non-masker, which definitely fits with Colin’s M.O. of frustrating everyone around him in order to train energy. Demetriou said the vampires would wear masks outside but under their noses.

There was a lot of discussion in the panel about the dynamics between the characters and the actors, and you can watch the panel below for more on that. A favorite bit comes about halfway through, when the Nadja Doll comes to the call for a few minutes, but is unable to get her sound working.

 

But the most exciting bits were near the end of the panel, as Simms dropped a ton of hints on what would happen in the What We Do in the Shadows’ third season. There will be at least 3-4 new magical creatures, including Hellhounds (but no aliens). There was joking about the Muppets making appearances, and Simms revealed that there was at least 3/4 of a page of a script dedicated to Kermit the Frog.

One episode will deal with the vampires all going on a road trip–which gets difficult. Simms explained that they all will have to carry around the soil of their home and place it under their bed, in conjunction with vampire lore. Colin Robinson will celebrate a “big, important” birthday, and he will also sing at some point. A big theme of the season is Nandor looking for love. Fan favorites will also be making returns to the show, although who they are is being kept under wraps. My fingers are crossed for Mark Hamill and Beanie Feldstein.

The panel concluded with a fake commercial for Jackie Daytona’s (Lazlo’s) bar from season 2, which was pretty funny and deserves a watch. It had tons of tiny details from the episode itself. Overall, the What We Do in the Shadows panel delivered a lot more than expected, which only makes me anticipate the third season more.
