Okay here is a thing which is cool: PEPITA: TAKEHIKO INOUE MEETS GAUDÍ a hardcover travel diary comprised of prose, sketches, and artwork by Takehiko Inoue, creator of SLAM DUNK, REAL, and VAGABOND. Inoue, whose sensitive pen and ink drawings are gorgeous by any standard, went to Barcelona and became entranced, as so many do, by the imagination and beauty of the architecture of Antoni Gaudí which lies over the landscape of Barcelona like a surreal lace scarf. culminating in the still unfinished Sagrada Familia, the famed twisty, turny cathedral that unites the gothic and the modern in one stunning building.
According to Viz, Inoue has long been obsessed by Gaudi’s work and traveled the Catalan region, to find out more drawing the whole time.
“Takehiko Inoue uses the medium of the art book to explore the transcendental work of Gaudí in this beautiful edition that is half art book, half travel memoir, and all beauty,” says Nick Mamatas, editor. “Inoue’s signature hyper-realistic style shines as he contemplates Gaudi’s work and influence in a variety of drawings and photographs. Join one of the world’s greatest manga artists on his intimate journey to discover the passions Gaudi held for architecture, nature, religion, and his beloved Catalonia – it is sure to be enjoyed as much by manga fans as by architecture lovers!”
The book hits at the end of April.
