Ready to reach 72 million households, The Old Guard is quickly climbing the charts at Netflix. The film, directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and starring Charlize Theron, was released only just released on July 10th, 2020. The projected statistics are based on results from the first four weeks of release.

Based on Greg Rucka‘s graphic novel, the series follows a group of immortal mercenaries whose secrets are revealed and they are forced to fight to protect themselves. On top of being the first Black woman to direct a superhero film, this data would also make Prince-Bythewood the first Black female director on the top ten original movies list.

Currently at the top of the list is Extraction at 99M, followed by Bird Box at 89M. The assumed metrics would put the film at the 6th position right after Murder Mystery and before The Irishman. The common thread pointed out by Bloomberg, is the star power behind these films. Cast members like Chris HemsworthSandra Bullock, and Mark Wahlberg could be big draws for audiences flipping through the streamer looking for something to watch.

Netflix remains secretive about exact numbers and, as Variety reports, anyone who has watched just two minutes of a film can be counted as a viewer. However, despite the mystery, it is known that top films like Extraction and Bird Box are getting sequels. If the predictions hold true, perhaps we will see a sequel announcement for The Old Guard as well.
