A year after DC Comics blazed the trail by going to SXSW and giving out free beer (as one does at SXSW), Marvel Comics has announced its own intent to attend the tech/film/music conference.

Yes, Marvel Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski and Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada will be making the trip to Austin next weekend. Their panel is titled Marvel: From Comics to Screens, and it’s set for 3:30 p.m. Friday, March 8 in Room 12AB of the Austin Convention Center. SXSW’s website describes the panel as a chance to “hear from two of the Marvel Comics’ biggest story-crafters on what it’s like to lead the way in the Marvel Universe!” That the in there is kind of funny.

Anyway, there will presumably be a fair bit of hey, did you know your favorite movie used to be a comic? going on for the crowd, given that this is the only explicitly comics-related panel in a sea of programming about smart cities, artificial intelligence, social activism and plenty of other things one could argue were being done in comics way before they went mainstream.

No word yet on whether DC will return to Austin, although with just seven days to go before all the booze and barbecue, it’s maybe worth noting that the publisher had already announced its intent by this time last year.
