If you were thinking Marvel was a little too quiet during WonderCon, maybe we just found out why: they’ve been saving things for C2E2.

It would appear that “Infinity Wars” is the next big thing and that Thanos and the Infinity Stones are involved.  And that the Infinity Gems have now been renamed to match the movies.  Gerry Duggan and Mike Deodato, Jr. will be handling the first announcement… but it sounds like an Event and with Marvel Events it’s hard to tell how many different titles will be involved.

I guess we’ll find out around the end of next week.

Official PR follows:

The reach of INFINITY COUNTDOWN has expanded to every corner of the multiverse, but the question remains…Countdown to what?

This July, writer Gerry Duggan, artist Mike Deodato Jr., and colorist Frank Martin answer that query with one word that resounds throughout infinity: War.

In INFINITY WARS: PRIME #1, the heroes and villains of the Marvel Universe reap what they sow as their frantic search for the Infinity Stones leads to cosmic madness like never before. The simmering events of recent months spiral into something much, much bigger in this colossal story.

Prepare to hear all the details from Marvel at C2E2 on April 6-8—but for now, take a look at the Mike Deodato Jr. cover for issue #1.

  1. I never expected them to keep to the know Events for 18 months line, but this feels like some sorta record. At least they waited a couple of months to annouce it.

  2. “Infinity Wars: Prime #1” Just let that sink in. There was a Prime and a prelude to “Infinity Countdown”, which itself is a 5 or 6 issue prelude series to the Infinity Wars event. But we need another “Prime” issue to get ready for the next event. And don’t forget this will all lead to a 6 to 8 issue event series, at least 2 tie-in miniseries, a dozen tie-in issues for low selling series, and an aftermath and/or omega issue. Then there will be a new Guardians series, probably a new #1 for Avengers or Iron Man, and a spin-off or two like Thanos or Adam Warlock.

  3. Gerry Duggan? What the hell is a Gerry Duggan? Is that the sound a spoon makes when it scrapes the bottom of a barrel?
