With both the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes in the rearview mirror, productions can finally resume on the various highly-anticipated such as Superman: Legacy. According to filmmaker James Gunn, even with the strikes the film is still set to make its July 11, 2025 release date. After a slew of casting announcements earlier in the year, a Deadline exclusive revealed that Venezuelan actress María Gabriela de Faría has been cast in the role of Angela Spica better known as the Engineer from The Authority.

Created by Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch, the character made her debut in The Authority vol.1 #1 in 1999. Spica is a scientist who had replaced her blood with nine pints of nanotechnology and could create solid objects with it among other things.

As previously revealed by Gunn, a feature film based on the edgy WildStorm characters is in the works.

This is one of my real passion projects. I’ve been working really hard on it with the writers and we’re starting to put together the entire story. This is a big movie. I don’t know how many of you are familiar with the Authority. They’re WildStorm characters. WildStorm was a comics imprint that was bought by DC that I really love. We’re moving a lot of these WildStorm characters into the DCU.

The Authority’s a very different kind of superhero story. They are basically good-intentioned, but they think that the world is completely broken and the only way to fix it is to take things into their own hands, whether that means killing people, destroying heads of state, changing governments—basically, whatever they want to do to make the world better. We’ll see how that journey goes for them.

There are morally gray characters (in our DCU), of which these are.

The rest of the cast include David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason/Metamorpho.
