Everything is about to hit the fan in The Magicians #3. Spinning out of the best-selling series by author Lev Grossman, the current comics follow a new group of students at Brakebills University who are seeking the best education they can get in the magical arts — but of course, magic always has a price. At the halfway mark for this five-issue miniseries from BOOM! Studios imprint Archaia, tension is so thick you could cut it with a knife — or a really sharp spell. Now that five students have been chosen to learn battle magic, can they cope with what they’ve done? How will they handle the terrible consequences of their actions?

Today, The Beat can reveal an exclusive first look at the new issue by writer Lilah Sturges and artist Plus Bak, with colors by Gabriel Cassata and letters by Mike Fiorentino.

After the shocking conclusion of the last issue, the five students chosen to learn battle magic are forced to confront the terrible consequences of what they’ve done, and what it could mean for the future of Brakebills. As tensions mount, the traditional Brakebills students and the newly admitted hedges begin to turn on one another!

The Magicians #3 features a main cover by artist Qistina Khalidah, along with a tarot card variant cover by artist Alexa Sharpe (Buffy the Vampire Slayer). The issue hits shelves January 8, 2020; you can currently pre-order from your local comic shop with Diamond Code NOV191294, or pick it up digitally next month.
