The Witcher video game creators CD Projekt Red have announced The Little Witcher, an original graphic novel reimagining Princess Cirilla “Ciri” Fiona Elen Riannon’s early years under Geralt of Rivia’s tutelage. Created by CDPR with artist Giada Carboni (Merry Little Batman), the 80-page book will be published in hardcover by Random House Worlds on May 13, 2025.
Putting a Witcher twist on family life, this delightful collection of comics features Geralt of Rivia as your average monster-slaying dad, trying to raise young Ciri to be a good kid while teaching her all about life as a witcher—a perfect gift for parents and The Witcher fans of all ages.
Young Ciri’s extensive training at Kaer Morhen, the witchers’ stronghold, includes everything she needs to learn to survive the many threats in her world . . . as well as all the antics and fun of a little girl bonding with her adoptive dad and family.
With help from Geralt and Ciri’s closest companions—including the motherly magic of Yennefer of Vengerberg and the wisdom of uncle Vesemir—these adorable tales of a non-traditional family will make you laugh, make you sigh, and make you realize that raising a Little Witcher is not that different from raising any other kid. Sure, bedtime stories might include warnings of monsters who fart when surprised, and Geralt might invoke the Witcher Code to get Ciri to brush her teeth or clean her room, but even the formidable White Wolf knows to surrender when it comes to bedtime battles or Afternoon Tea with the toys.
This will mark the first Witcher book published by Penguin Random House, and the first English-language graphic novel by Carboni, an Italian visual development artist and illustator. She initially reimagined Ciri’s story in a series of cartoons inspired by the Netflix show, called Baby Ciri, and while the final book is instead a game tie-in/self-parody, using CDPR’s character designs and so on, its release will coincide with the fourth and penultimate season of the show (featuring Liam Hemsworth taking over from Henry Cavill in the title role), which will be released among other heavy hitters like Stranger Things 5, The Sandman season two, and Wednesday season two on the streamer sometime next year.
Incidentally, this is not the first time a more kid-friendly version of of the Continent created by author Andrzej Sapkowski has been pitched: back in 2021, Netflix series showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich announced an animated, family-friendly spin-off was in the works, something that raised more than a few eyebrows given how mature The Witcher is. There has been no official word on the project since, with the only currently confirmed upcoming spin-off being the animated film Sirens of the Deep (starring Doug Cockle as Geralt), due for release on February 11, 2025.
Alongside Dark Horse’s upcoming comics, that should be more than enough to preoccupy adult Witcher fans until they can treat little ones to this book in May.
