The LA Times Book Prizes were presented over the weekend and the winner in the GN category was Leslie Stein’s Present, published by Drawn & Quarterly. It’s a lovely slice of life comic about Stein’s musings on Brooklyn, her mother and all those other beloved quotidian joys and annoyances. The comics were originally published on Vice, which despite all the controversy, is still a very visible platform for comics.

The LA Times Prize is one of the major awards for a comic, and almost always leads to increased sales from In case you haven’t seen Stein’s work here’s a except from Present. And also the cover graphic doesn’t do it justice, as it’s a cutout cover with windows. IN short a lovely book by a major talent well deserving of this prize.
