Fans of video games and existential vampires are enthralled about the LEGACY OF KAIN: SOUL REAVER – THE DEAD SHALL RISE graphic novel. Written by Joshua Viola and Angie Hodapp with interior art by Juan Samu, along with additional art by Jonny Bush and Ninja Jo, the graphic novel return to the Legacy of Kain franchise begins with a Kickstarter campaign serving as a long-awaited 25th-anniversary return of a classic PlayStation hit franchise.
LEGACY OF KAIN: SOUL REAVER – THE DEAD SHALL RISE marks the first official new Soul Reaver narrative in two decades, since 2003’s Legacy of Kain: Defiance. As incentive for fans, Bit Bot Media and Crystal Dynamics are releasing exclusive collectible Latex Masks of Kain and Raziel.
“With our Legacy of Kain latex masks, we aimed to honor Kain and Raziel while introducing fresh design elements,” says Joshua Viola of Bit Bot Media. “Each mask is a labor of love, designed by our partners at Oktober Studios to look great on a shelf or win the best Soul Reaver cosplay at a fan convention. Either way, our masks will allow fans to immerse themselves in the world of Nosgoth like never before.”
The Raziel Mask is hand-sculpted and hand-painted with black, breathable fabric to hide the mouth and chin, creating the haunting illusion of Raziel’s missing jaw. The fabric cowl, adorned with Raziel’s clan symbol, can be adjusted to either conceal or reveal Raziel’s face.
As for the Kain Mask, this receration of the vampire lord of Nosgath is meticulously hand-sculpted and hand-painted mask captures the essence of Kain with intricate design motifs that blend a familiar but fresh look to emphasize his evolutionary changes between Blood Omen 2 and Soul Reaver.
Here’s the premise of the upcoming story:
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver – The Dead Shall Rise delves into Raziel’s past as a human Sarafan warrior and his transformation into a vampire lieutenant under Kain. The story introduces new characters, including a mysterious vampire with deep connections to Raziel and Kain. This compelling tale explores and expands the existing canon while answering long-standing questions.
“In college, I created a Soul Reaver poster for a class project, never imagining I would one day officially contribute to the franchise,” followed Viola. “Even today, Raziel graces my tattoo sleeve—a testament to my deep connection with this universe. Fans can expect a project infused with that same passion. Working directly with creatives from Crystal Dynamics and reuniting with former collaborators makes this a truly special endeavor.”
