The first issue of Daniel Warren JohnsonJuan Gedeon, and Mike Spicer‘s DC Comics series Jurassic League is set to drop next month. The six-issue miniseries imagines a world where the iconic heroes and villains of the DC Universe are all dinosaurs. Yesterday DC released an expanded first look at the series debut issue, including the introduction of dinosaur Aquaman, as well as the issue’s 1:25 variant cover by the legendary Walter Simonson, which features Batman and The Joker as dinosaurs, and if that sounds awesome to you then you are clearly a person who understands what words mean.

Main cover by Daniel Warren Johnson

Here’s how DC describes Jurassic League:

You know the story: an infant escapes the destruction of its home planet and is deposited on Earth to be raised by human parents. A goddess from a lost city defends truth. A Theropod dons the visage of a bat to strike fear into evildoers’ hearts. This heroic trinity, alongside a league of other super-powered dinosaurs, join forces to save a prehistoric Earth from the sinister machinations of Darkseid. Wait…what? Okay, maybe you don’t know the story. So join us and bear witness to a brand-new—yet older than time—adventure and experience the Justice League as you have never seen them before!

Here’s Walt Simonson’s variant cover, which features dinosaur Batman fighting dinosaur The Joker:

(I’ll admit it: dinosaur The Joker kind of freaks me out.)

Now I know what you’re going to say: that this sounds wildly historically inaccurate. Contrary to what The Flintstones would have us believe, humans and dinosaurs were not around at the same time. And I hear that, I really do. But also, stop it. We’re talking about a dinosaur version of Batman. If you’re looking for historical accuracy in your dinosaur superhero cape comics, I would suggest maybe just not reading dinosaur superhero cape comics.

Have I mentioned that these are dinosaurs as superheroes?

Check out the rest of the interior preview, along with Juan Gedeon’s variant cover, below. Jurassic League #1 (of 6) is set to arrive in stores and digitally on Tuesday, May 10th.
