Christmas came a few days earlier for DC Comics fans as the first Superman trailer from filmmaker James Gunn was released.

The film stars David Corenswet as the titular character along with Rachel Brosnahan playing intrepid reporter Lois Lane.

In addition to Corenswet and Brosahan, the film also features Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, María Gabriela De Faría as the Engineer, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent, Neva Howell as Martha Kent, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, and Christopher McDonald as Ron Troupe

To say that Warner Bros. has been hyping up the trailer for the past week is an understatement. Considering how much the fledgling DC Studios has riding on the success of this latest cinematic outing for the Man of the Steel, expect them to put out all the stops in the coming year.

While full details of the film’s plot are still being kept close to the chest, the Superman trailer did offer fans a first look many things we’ve all been excited about. Above all else, I think we can all agree there’s no small amount of joy seeing Krypto in live-action form. Considering this is a James Gunn project, it shouldn’t come as a surprise for him to feature his love and animals and to go for the more quirkier elements of the Superman mythos.

In addition, we got our first official look at Nathan Filion as Guy Gardner Green Lantern sporting his trademark bowl cut hairstyle as well as Isabel Merced as Hawkgirl and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific. Though brief we also get a closeup shot of Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.

Gunn clearly did his research when it came to the entire history of the Superman mythos. If you look closely, you’ll see a newscast reference Boravia, a fictional European country that appeared in the second issue of the original Superman comic back in 1939. Talk about a deep cut.

Superman arrives in theaters on July 11, 2025.

  1. Sold. I know Krypto has been getting some bad press, but I’m all in. My only concern is this feels like it might be too big for an origin story and too origin-y for a big story. Hopefully it’s lite on origin, because we’ve seen it in many variations already.
