Rumors circulated earlier this week that actress Jameela Jamil, best known for her role as Tahani Al-Jamil in the acclaimed series The Good Place, would be the villainous Titania in the upcoming She-Hulk Disney+ original series starring Tatiana Maslany as the titular character. Today THR confirmed the rumors were indeed true and Jamil is in fact playing Titania.

Mary MacPherran, better known as the villain Titania, was first introduced in the pages of Marvel’s epic Secret Wars comic where she was abducted along with a suburb of Denver to be part of the alien Beyonder’s makeshift planet Battleworld. It was there that she encountered Doctor Doom who granted her super strength. Since returning to Earth, Titania has become a reoccurring antagonist and perennial foe for Jennifer Walters a.k.a Shulkie.

Since her first appearance, Titania has had a romantic relationship with Crusher Creel, or as comic readers know him as the villain Absorbing Man. They eventually tied in the knot in Avengers Unplugged #4 by Glenn Herdling, John Statema and Scott Koblish.

Not surprisingly the marriage between villains is not the most stable and has more often than not been strained. She did grieve for her husband’s death in the pages of Black Bolt by writer Saladin Ahmed and artist Christian Ward. However, this being comics where death is a revolving door, Absorbing Man has since miraculously returned from the grave.

Titania’s life and origin before Secret Wars was largely left a mystery until writer Dan Slott and artist Paul Pelletier filled in the details of her life leading up to her villainous transformation in She-Hulk #10.

As revealed during Disney’s Investor Day last December Kat Corio is helming the She-Hulk pilot, with Rick & Morty scribe Jessica Gao serving as head writer. Additionally, Mark Ruffalo will reprise his role as Bruce Banner on the show, and Tim Roth, who played The Abomination in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk movie, is also returning.
