Academy Award nominated actor Jackie Earle Haley (whose performance in Little Children is still one of the most haunting I’ve ever seen) has signed up for another comic book adaptation, this time with AMC’s presentation of Garth Ennis’ and Steve Dillon’s Preacher.
Haley will be Odin Quincannon, described for the television series as: “a small, decrepit man with the unscrupulous iron will necessary to be the most powerful man in Annville County, Texas. The chief employer in town, Odin runs Quincannon Meat & Power, a 125-year-old family run cattle slaughterhouse business.”
Haley previously appeared on-screen as Rorschach in the big screen adaptation of Watchmen and on FOX’s Human Target series. He will appear in 6 of the 10 first season episodes.
He joins a cast that already includes Dominic Cooper, Ruth Negga, Joe Gilgun, W. Earl Brown, and Ian Colletti, among others. The series is executive produced by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and Sam Catlin, with a pilot directed by Rogen and Goldberg.
No debut date has been announced as of yet.
It seems to be too early in the preacher storyline for the Meat Man. Jesse Custer’s journey looks to be very different than how it originally went. I’m afraid Humper Dumper De Doo moment will not have the profound impact like the original series.
Odin? Not Starr, who he sounds like a perfect fit for?
I would have gone way older.
A frail, small 90 year old man humping a pile of meat?
Hilarious.
