The Suicide Squad’s sprawling cast includes a lot of colorful characters, but Mayling Ng’s real-life resume is just as impressive. An actress/black belt martial artist/figure competitor, Ng plays Mongal, an orange-hued alien warrior who is recruited by Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) for Task Force X’s mission to Corto Maltese. Led by Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman) and Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), this ragtag band of misfits lands with a splash.
Born in the UK but raised in Tenerife and Singapore, Ng has followed many vocations in her life. Although her character’s make-up took hours to apply, the muscles are all hers – she’s been studying martial arts since she was 8, and has been a fitness trainer as well as competitor. She was previously seen in the DCEU in a brief but stunning role as Orana in Wonder Woman.
With her unique look and action skills, Mayling Ng is sure to stand out in The Suicide Squad. We got a chance to talk to her about what makes Mongal tick, working with director James Gunn, her many interests, and how swimming with swords isn’t easy.
The Suicide Squad opens August 6th in theaters and on HBO Max. Follow all our coverage of The Suicide Squad here!
