IDW Publishing and Yoe Books have announced a new partnership that will see them releasing a line of large-format Marvel Comics hardcover collections. The books will collect artwork that spans from the company’s Golden Age beginnings up through the modern day.
The first release will be Marvel Masterwork Pin-Ups, which will feature, as its name suggests, pin-ups. Work will come from Silver Age creators on up, including Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, Jim Steranko, Don Heck, John Byrne, Barry Windsor-Smith, John Severin, Wally Wood, Dan Decarlo, John Romita, and more. In an announcement Tuesday, the partners noted this is the first time this work will be available in a single volume, joined (of course) by “witty wordage, pulse-pounding patter, and zany zingers by Stan ‘The Man’ Lee.”
The list of characters is largely as one might expect, including Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, The Hulk, Thor, Doctor Strange, the X-Men, and Cpatain Marvel, plus also villains like Doctor Doom. Most interestingly, the book extend outside of Marvel’s superhero past to also include Millie the Model by Dan DeCarlo.
“I’m the person that I am (such as that is) because of Stan, Jack, Steve, and the other early Marvel creators inspiring me in my Peter Parker teenage-years,” said Craig Yoe, who is editing the book, in a statement. “To take this ‘journey into history’ with this – the first in a line of Marvel books – is an amazing, fantastic, incredible thrill for this proud charter member of the Merry Marvel Marching Society!”
More releases in this new line from IDW and Yoe will follow throughout 2019. Marvel Masterwork Pin-Ups is available to pre order now from both online booksellers and comic book stores.
