On the heels of the announcement that Al EwingRam V, and Bryan Hitch are picking up the reins of Venom from outgoing writer Donny Cates and artist Ryan Stegman, Marvel has announced the next project for the lethal protector’s former scribe. Donny Cates will team with artists Ryan Ottley and Frank Martin for a new Hulk ongoing series, picking up after the conclusion of Ewing’s acclaimed Immortal Hulk, which wraps its run in September.

The first taste of Cates and Ottley’s run on the jade giant will come in August, with the Free Comic Book Day 2021 Avengers/Hulk special. Here’s how Marvel describes Donny Cates and Ryan Ottley’s forthcoming Hulk run:

This unstoppable team of some of the industry’s greatest talent will helm a bold new era of HULK that begins when Bruce Banner discovers a radical way to control the monster within. Could this mark the final end of the green goliath? Or will the extreme solution create something new – with massive consequences? Prepare to dive deep into the very core of Hulk’s rage in this thrilling epic that will explore this iconic character’s incredible—and  destructive—legacy in a way no one has dared to before.

Given both creators’ penchant for over-the-top action, Donny Cates and Ryan Ottley’s Hulk will likely represent a departure from the horror-tinged Hulk readers have seen from Ewing and artist Joe Bennett in the pages of Immortal Hulk.
