On the chance you haven’t heard or been paying attention to social media, it was announced last week that actress Gina Carano was fired by Lucasfilm and dropped by her talent agency due to “social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.” Despite playing fan-favorite character Cara Dune in the first two seasons of the massively successful series The Mandalorian, the firing of Carano felt somewhat inevitable after her continuous controversial social media posts in the past year.

There’s been speculation as to whether Disney will completely ditch the character or simply recast Cara Dune with another actress à la Pietro in WandaVision. In any event, it appears that Disney is cleaning house. Late last week Big Bad Toy Store customers who pre-ordered a forthcoming Star Wars: The Black Series 6″ Cara Dune action figure received an email informing them that Hasbro had canceled production of the figure.

“We have been informed by Hasbro that they have cancelled production of the Star Wars: The Black Series 6″ Cara Dune (The Mandalorian) and will not be fulfilling our order. Unfortunately, this means we must cancel our pre-orders for this item. We apologize for the inconvenience and greatly appreciate your understanding.”

The Cara Dune 6″ Star Wars: The Black Series figure has been available in stores for a few months already, but the announcement that Hasbro won’t be producing any more is certainly a surprise. Incidentally, a new Cara Dune Funko Pop! figure, that was announced among a new wave of Mandalorian products a few months ago, will be available in just a few weeks. While it’s too late for Funko to pull production on those figures, it’s highly doubtful that Carano’s ardent fanbase will purchase them after vowing to cancel their Disney+ subscriptions, so I expect these Cara Dune Funkos to go the way of Jar Jar Binks Phantom Menace merch and fill discount bins.

Cara Dune’s erasure from Star Wars related merchandise has actually been brewing in the months leading up to Carano’s official firing. In December artist Mark Raats unveiled official Mandalorian artwork commissioned by Lucasfilm and Disney that many noted was conspicuously missing Cara Dune.

Meanwhile, Carano announced on Friday that she is partnering with conservative website The Daily Wire to develop, produce, and star in a movie project. It’s a far cry from headlining your own Disney+ Star Wars original series, but to each their own.

  1. Unlike Jar Jar was in the bins because of his unpopularity. Even with the controversy I think the Cara figure will be a hot item on eBay and with collectors of limited items. Fans always claim to be unsubscribing or boycotting, but I can’t see them sticking to it with the other SW & Marvel shows being so popular.

  2. Mr. Chaput you are wrong, we’re not wishy washy with our outrage. I cancelled my subscription to Disney+ and told them why, I don’t care anymore about anything they’ll be producing (WandaVision, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, The Book of Boba Fett, Mandalorian S3 and etc. They Fired Gina because she’s Conservative and a strong Female role model for women! Disney don’t care about their Fans, all they care about is their venomous HATRED of Conservatives and anyone who doesn’t Bend a knee to their Fascist liberal agenda! Cancelling the Action Figure is another opportunity to hurt Gina and her Fans, that is the only reason they did it! What does the Cara Dune Toy have to do with what’s being said on Social media! Do they keep an eye on everything their actors old and new do on Social media and in life, and if they do or say something that offends someone will their Action Figure be pulled and never produced again? #DonewithDisney

  3. Mr. Arnold I hate to say it but I can’t remember the last time I saw a true conservative. The wolves in the Republican Party are a far cry from those value state rights and value fiscally conservative policies. She wasn’t “cancelled” by Disney or censored. Any employer are allowed to part ways with any employee for whatever reason they want. A global company of course would be hesitant to work with someone who shared what Gina did. Gina chose politics over her job, it’s as simple as that. The fact you think Disney is liberal is laughable as well. The world is more than you’re archaic two-party system. Maybe o e day you’ll wake up and see things aren’t just “us” vs “them”.

  4. While I’m not sure how I feel about firing Gina Carano, I find it laughable that people consider Disney to be left liberals. A company that underpays their employees, who fire thousands while their owners still get their bonuses and who is probably one of the biggest global brands worldwide. In fact, firing Carano is a certain proof that they are really following the free economy. They knew she would hurt their brand, so they let her go. That’s a very non-leftie thing to do, IMO. This is like when left liberals accused Ricky Gervais for being right wing for criticising huge media conglomerates on stage during the Golden Globes.

  5. But Disney was fine with filming Mulan next to the Chinese internment camp in China. They even thanked the same people who run those camps in the credits.

  6. I rushed out to get the toys but they are all sold out even pops. Hopefully I can get a preorder if they don’t cancel them. I thought I’d find them in the discount bins with the rose and smoke pops. Why did I choose to sleep???
