IDW Publishing has announced Godzilla vs. America: San Diego, the latest in the publisher’s series of specials pitting the King of the Monsters against various American locales. Releasing on July 22, the day before this year’s San Diego Comic-Con (July 23-26), the book will feature stories involving the kaiju “crashing into a week usually dominated by panels, cosplay, and major entertainment announcements, only to become the main attraction instead.” Currently confirmed contributors will include Stan Sakai (Usagi Yojimbo), Dan Jurgens (The Death of Superman), and Greg & Fake (Santos Sisters).

IDW’s Godzilla vs. America one-shots kicked off with Chicago in February 2025, and continued with that year’s Los Angeles, Boston, and Kansas City. This year’s run started with Portland, and will continue with Texas on May 13.
All of the specials feature stories by creators from their settings. Jurgens previously teamed up with IDW for a Godzilla #6 cover homaging his Superman run earlier this year, while Sakai (who is Japanese American) has referenced the films several times in Usagi Yojimbo.
San Diego will have covers by Christian Ward and Ron Lim, the unlettered art for which will also be available respectively as a 1:25 retail incentive variant, and a 1:10 variant. Pre-orders will be due by June 15. In the meantime, IDW will release Godzilla’s The Odyssey on June 10, and Sonic the Hedgehog x Godzilla #1 on July 15.
Godzilla ’54 reimagining The Horror of Godzilla will begin afterwards on July 29, while Marvel’s Godzilla Conquers the Multiverse will also start on July 22. Incidentally, Godzilla will also be heading to the United States in the next Japanese film, Godzilla Minus Zero, releasing in theaters November 6.
