Baltimore Comic Con takes place next week, one last party before the holidays take over. As part of the festivities, the Hero Initiative is holding an art action, administered by art expert and Master of the Artist’s Edition Scott Dunbier.

Artists whose work will be in the auction include John Byrne, Frank Cho, Michael Cho, Tomm Coker, Kevin Eastman, Gene Ha, Kelley Jones, Shawn McManus, Mike Mignola, Frank Miller, Kevin Nowlan, Dave Sim, Walter Simonson, Herb Trimpe, JK Woodward, and more.

Art will be available for viewing both at the Baltimore Comic-Con, and at Hero Initiative’s website here.

The live auction will take place Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 5pm at the Baltimore Comic-Con (specific location to be announced), prior to the Ringo Awards. While in-person bidding is encouraged, online proxy bids are also being taken – but they end on Tuesday, October 25.

Dunbier tells The Beat that “Probably 80% of these pieces were done explicitly for this auction. I can’t stress what a great cause Hero Initiative is, they help those in need, sometimes DIRE need. Even if you don’t want to bid on any art, I urge people to donate to the fund and become members—the work they do is that important!”
To which we can only say: AMEN. The Hero Initiative helps creators in need, and if you know anything about the economics of working in comics, you know there are a lot of creators in need. Especially older cartoonists whose work is foundational to the world of pop culture, but took place long before they could participate in the profits.

Take a look at the auction, and put in your proxy bids – or just go to Baltimore Comic Con. Guests include Jill Thompson, Gene Luen Yang, Frank Miller and many more. It’s one of the best shows of the year!
