Free Comic Book Day will be held May 7th, 2022, a return to its traditional springtime frame. And 46 comics will be available, including 11 gold sponsor comics and 35 all-new Silver Sponsor titles.
Marvel will have one Gold and two Silver titles — despite leaving Diamond as its main distributor. DC, however, will have to find its own way to get the free comics into people’s hands.
Several traditional book publishers are represented, mostly with their YA focused titles, including Scholastic, Penguin, Random House, and Ten Speed Press. There is also manga and something about an anthropomorphic baseball team.
And lots of beloved franchises, like Stranger Things, Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles, Dog Man, Archie, Buffy….the gang’s all here!
A committee of comic shop retailers chose forty-six titles to be available on Free Comic Book Day: eleven Gold Sponsor comics and thirty-five Silver Sponsor comics that give fans a great opportunity to discover new titles and genres. This year’s selection of Silver Sponsor comics includes beloved franchises such as The Walking Dead, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Sonic The Hedgehog, Pokémon, Avengers, and Street Fighter. Other notable Silver Sponsor titles are available from Dynamite Entertainment, BOOM! Studios, ABLAZE, Titan Comics, AfterShock Comics and more.
“Every year, we strive to bring fans a memorable Free Comic Book Day experience. We’re looking forward to returning to the traditional first Saturday in May event date and hope fans will visit local shops to celebrate what we hope will be one of the best FCBD events yet!” said Ashton Greenwood, Free Comic Book Day spokesperson. “The variety of this year’s comic book selection is really exciting! There’s something for every kind of fan, from the long-time reader to the comic book curious.
