Some interesting comics news just hit the wire. In response to the election of Donald Trump, Francoise Mouly and Nadja Spiegelman have put out an open call for submissions for a new political newspaper called RESIST! For those who have felt fear or anger due to the events surrounding this election, this seems like an excellent way to express your artistic feelings on the matter!
According to the RESIST! website, the first edition will be published in a special issue of Gabe Fowler’s Smoke Signal, to be ready just in the time of the inauguration on January 20th. The deadline for submitting art is December 10th.
Francoise Mouly’s call to action in full:
Calling all comics artists and illustrators!
Nadja Spiegelman and I are putting together a political comics and graphics newspaper called RESIST!
It will be a special issue of Gabe Fowler’s Smoke Signal. It will be printed at 30,000 copies and distributed for free during the women’s march on Washington, as well as across the country. We’re aiming to have it be an all women’s issue, but we’re open to submissions from anyone.
Here’s our website with more information:
We need everything by December 10th at the very latest!
Please — send us your political images and sketches! Make your voices heard! And spread the word about this as far and wide as you can…”
This looks to be an amazing, powerful, and necessary project. I can’t wait to see it!
