Tim Drake is getting a new ongoing series in September, titled Tim Drake: Robin, from the creative team of writer Meghan Fitzmartin and artist Riley Rossmo, DC Comics has announced.
The first issue is slated to arrive on Sept. 27, spinning out of Tim Drake’s recent stories in the Batman: Urban Legends anthology and this past week’s Tim Drake Pride Special. Tim, as folks who read those recent comics are surely aware, has recently come out and is involved in a romance with his friend, Bernard. Here’s the plot description straight from the good folks at DC Comics publicity:
This kinetic, high-energy series pulls Tim center stage as a mystery over a year in the making takes shape. A new villain who’s been hounding Tim from afar decides to take things up close and personal, putting Bernard and everyone else Tim cares about in peril. All that and Tim finally carves out a corner of Gotham City just for himself, and sets up shop in his very own…murder-shack-boat?
Fitzmartin has been doing great work with Tim Drake for going on past a year now, and Rossmo is an interesting creative choice here, coming off a strong run of his own on the current Harley Quinn series. Will be exciting to see his take on Tim Drake now. Checkout some preview art below:
In addition, the series will feature a set of variant covers from top-tier artists that capture Tim Drake’s looks over the years. Jorge Jimenez will be doing a One Year Later variant, Sweeney Boo a 1:25 Debut Era variant, Dan Mora a 1:50 Young Justice era variant, and Jamal Campbell a 1:100 Teen Titans era variant. Ricardo López Ortiz will be illustrating the main cover.
Finally, in addition to Tim Drake: Robin, Damian Wayne as Robin is also getting a new story in September with Batman Vs. Robin #1, due out Sept. 13 from the creative team of writer Mark Waid and artist Mahmud Asrar.
Rossmo is a polarizing choice for art. A lot of people do not like it.
