The idea of M. Night Shyalaman directing a Harry Potter movie makes baby Jesus cry.

There will apparently be a lot of wild characters in PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 3, as this casting notice posted at Jim Hill Media shows:

Open Casting Call – Through 15 August 2006

Pirates of the Caribbean 3

Sande Alessi Casting

Seeking Pirates — men age 18+, all shapes and sizes, all ethnicities: Asian, Spanish, French, African, Syrian, Lebanese, Middle Eastern, Turkish, Armenian, Arab, Persian, Caucasian, South American, Pacific Islander, Eskimo, etc…

You must be an extreme character type! We need extremely skinny, very tall, very short, hunchback, little people, unusual facial features and body types, exotic amputees, albinos, etc.

Bring your own current 3×5 photo (does not have to be professional). If you do not have a photo, we can take one for you for $2.00

Unfortunately, all the amputees we know are non-exotic, or we would send them over.

  1. The last “Pirates” casting call I heard about was about a year ago. They were looking for Asians of all sorts and extreme-looking pirates.

Is this a good thing that they’re still looking to cast more pirates? I figured they’d be done with shooting at this point.

  2. With regard to the Shyalaman article, I’m amused by the comment “I would definitely [meet with J.K. Rowling], but I think probably before that I would adapt a book. I’ve gotten close a few times to adapting books.” as it reminds me of the minor controversy that arose when folks noted similarities between Shyalaman’s movie “The Vilage” to the book “Running Out of Time” by Margaret Peterson Haddix.

I actually think Shyalaman might well want think about adapting a movie (he’s writing the screenplay for the movie based on the book “Life of Pi” isn’t he? But he’s not directing, I don’t think…) Exercising different creative muscles might be good for him as a director at this point…

  3. Shyalaman directing Potter?

    What a twist!

Here’s hoping that doesn’t happen, though. I liked Unbreakable and haven’t seen Night’s other films yet, but he seems like the kind of guy who’s better off following his own muse rather than trying to channel someone else’s.

  4. Apparently, if the rumours are to be believed, there is a big cameo yet to be filmed, which will take approximately a week. So they probably need the pirates for that bit.
