You’ve had Maximum, Minimum, Superior, Absolute and regular old vanilla Carnage but this summer you will get…Extreme Carnage. The King in Black event is a week away from its conclusion but Marvel Comics are already teasing the next symbiote event.

In a tale told in the aftermath of King in Black, the Life Symbiotes (Phage, Scream, Lasher, Riot and Agony) come face to face with their big brother – Carnage – as the status quo for symbiotes in the Marvel Universe continues to shift.

Extreme Carnage begins with Extreme Carnage: Alpha #1 in July, and will be written by Phillip Kennedy Johnson. No artist has been confirmed but Marvel have flashed a teaser cover by Leinil Francis Yu and Sunny Gho.

[Note that one character is yet to be revealed on the teaser. Get your fan theories out, people!]

Speaking about the event, Philip Kennedy Johnson said:

“After King in Black, everything we thought we knew about the symbiotes will have changed. Every man, woman, and child in the Marvel Universe will finally understand the massive threat the symbiotes represent, and the symbiotes that are still among us are now in the crosshairs of some extremely angry, scared, and powerful forces.

“In the pages of Extreme Carnage, we’ll not only explain what Carnage is in this new, post-King in Black era, but also see a return-to-form for the deadliest symbiotes that have ever lived while putting them on a lethal new path for the future.”

Philip Kennedy Johnson has been making a bit of a splash lately at the Big Two. He is working on Marvel’s new Alien series after the license was transferred from Dark Horse Comics, he is working on the Superman books for DC, and he also just concluded his own series from DC’s Black Label, The Last God. He is also an Eisner Award nominated writer for a short story in Adventure Time Comics #13 from Kaboom/BOOM Studios, with Antonio Sandoval.
