With ECCC only a dwindling memory and a box of kleenex from the con crud everyone caught, C2E2 is bearing down on us on April 25-27. Chicago’s biggest comics event will have the usual line-up of guests from all areas of the industry.

However, the website panel listings don’t allow you to see the whole thing at one, but courtesy of ReedPOP’s Marykate Nagourney, here is the whole list of programming in an easy to find way. Highlights include a storytelling panel with Amanda Conner and Cully Hamner, Mark Waid on his digital and retailing exploits, Christina Blanch and Carol Tilley on various comics and academics topics, and the usual MArvel, DC, Dark Horse, Boom and so on panels.

Speakers: Claire Llewellyn, Julie Ufema, Lauren Jankowski, Sandra Almazan
Description: Genre still suffers from a lack of diversity. In film, television and literature we are bombarded with stories told through the straight white male gaze. Rampant sexism and harassment are still commonplace in genre spaces. Women’s work is still viewed through a gendered lens, whereas work by men is believed to appeal to everyone. The VIDA count, Women in Horror Recognition Month, Lexi Alexander’s article on sexism in the film industry and the work of Broad Universe are the first steps towards gender equality in genre. How do we continue this momentum? How can we make genre spaces safer for everyone? Let’s have a discussion about the ways to combat sexism (and the other -isms) and make genre a more welcoming place.

  1. The first year of C2E2, there was a huge focus on webcomics and there were a number of webcomic-specific panels. Those panels were incredibly entertaining and refreshing. Successive years have seen webcomic-related content dwindle to nothing. We also seem to be missing a guest of any particular literary distinction, something we’ve gotten in past years.

    I’m disappointed by this line-up.
