It’s time for a road trip in this Wednesday’s The Wild Storm #13! As Warren Ellis’ and Jon Davis-Hunt’s reimagining of the classic 90s universe continues, tensions escalate between IO, the “secret deep-state agency that runs Earth,” and Skywatch, the organization that runs space. And as their war continues, a former director of IO finds himself travelling across the country in search of some of the subjects from his darkest and most successful experiments.

Despite being epic in scope, The Wild Storm never completely gives itself over to bombast. Rendered with a steady eye and an emphasis on structure, the layouts in this book encourage us to examine every characters’ changes in facial expression in search of their intents just as much as they encourage us to revel in the ever-expanding chaos of this secret war.

John Lynch, once the director of IO, the secret deep-state agency that runs Earth, is on the road. His darkest project, Thunderbook, has been uncovered, and he needs to warn the principals, now scattered across America. Hiding. Because they were his most successful experiments. And none of them are completely human anymore.

  1. This is such a great book. But I’m going to have to go back and re-read the whole thing once it’s done. It’s so dense and complicated. A pity the “Michael Cray” spinoff is so underwhelming.
