When BOOM! Studios contacted us to do an exclusive reveal of the third volume of The Avant-Guards, aptly called The Avant-Guards: Down to the Wire, I was ecstatic. I’ve reviewed the first volume back in September 2019 and thought it was excellent. The creative team understands how relationship evolve over time, how people reveal more about each other as friendship and closeness peel away at someone’s layers. It’s At the time I said: “My main issue with The Avant-Guards is that it wasn’t long enough. I wanted more of these characters, their trials and tribulations, their ups and down, their love life. That’s a really good problem to have. I’m looking forward to following this team wherever they go as the series continues.“

Studios has kindly provided The Beat with an exclusive preview of the first ten pages of the upcoming release of The Avant-Guards: Down to the Wire coming out on September 2, 2020 in comic book stores and on September 8, 2020 in bookstores or at the BOOM! Studios webstore. It will be published under BOOM! Studios’ BOOM! Box imprint, which has been publishing some terrific work these past few years such as Lumberjanes, Giant Days Heavy Vinyl, Misfit City, Fence and Goldie Vance. They have some very strong series and it’s great to see their line evolve over time.
