Emmy Award-winning animator Nick Cross and cartoonist Marlo Meekins‘s black-and-white fantasy epic, Orchard of the Tame, will debut in comic shops in October. Originally self-published digitally, the comic has been adapted for print by boutique publisher Pegamoose Press, which crowdfunded the project in March.
Orchard of the Tame follows River Siren, a young mermaid who escapes imprisonment with the help of two birds. Suddenly faced with the wide open world, she discovers more about herself than she ever could have dreamed under the thumb of her captor.
The Beat has an exclusive, extended preview of the comic below.
“Nick and Marlo are just brilliant creatives, so when we heard they had created a graphic novel we just had to see it,” said cartoonist and Pegamoose Press co-owner Troy Little. “Needless to say, we were totally blown away! For the first time, we seriously considered growing our imprint because this book just had to be in print. Luckily for us, they were onboard, and we couldn’t be more excited!”
Co-publisher Brenda Hickey added, “We are such fans of Marlo and Nick’s work. It’s the type of quirky and offbeat graphic novel that inspires us and makes us want to rush back to the drawing board to work on our own books. We hope everyone checks it out and enjoys it as much as we do.”
Orchard of the Tame is the third Pegamoose Press title to hit shelves via its distribution deal with Diamond. The comic goes on sale at your local comic shop on October 23.
