The Winslow House needs a hero. The apartment building is rundown, in a shady neighborhood, and facing both criminals and a strange force ready to take down the whole place. Despite it all, the tenants are ready to help a beaten and bloody devil they find in their yard. In Death Defying ‘Devil #1, our hero finds himself trapped inside the house and facing an assortment of obstacles in order to protect the innocents who have helped him.
The original ‘Devil was created in the ‘40s by Jack Binder for an eight-page backup feature in Lev Gleason Publications’ Silver Streak #6. The character has seen many incarnations over the years by publishers such as AC Comics, First Publications, and even Image Comics as one of the Golden Age characters in the Next Issue Project.
Dynamite’s new miniseries written by Gail Simone (Birds of Prey, Wonder Woman) and drawn by artist Walter Geovani (Red Sonja, Clean Room) harkens back to the original version. The ‘Devil is a boomerang marksman and vigilante, helping those in need and taking down baddies swiftly with barely a word. Adriano Augusto (Red Sonja/Tarzan, KISS: Blood & Stardust) is on colors and Simon Bowland (Red Sonja, The Boys) takes on letters.
Fans have a ton of covers from which to choose by artists such as Riccardo Federici (Aquaman, Dark Nights Metal: Dark Knights Rising), Tyler Kirkham (Deathstroke, Green Lantern, Teen Titans), Ben Oliver (American Carnage), Lucio Parrillo (Vampirella, Red Sonja), and In-Hyuk Lee (Black Order, Spider-Geddon). There will also be a Project Superpowers throwback with a special incentive “Carve Out” cover by Alex Ross.
The Beat received an exclusive preview of some of the interior art as well as covers. Death Defying Devil #1 hits comic shops and online on Wednesday August 7. Head to Dynamite’s website for more on the new miniseries.
