A few years ago, Nickelodeon and Mattel announced a reboot of the popular Monster High franchise that would include live-action and animated projects. This would be followed with a publishing program that would include comics published by IDW “augmenting Mattel’s commitment to expanding the Monster High universe.” Among the highlights from IDW’s Monster High publishing efforts from 2024 was a Monster High Pride issue celebrating some of the fan-favorite LGBTQIA+ characters from the franchise. Today The Beat is proud to exclusively reveal covers and solicit info for this year’s Monster High Pride one-shot available in comic shops on May 28, 2025..
 
From writers Jacque Aye and Megan Brown with art by Siobhan Keenan and Bowen McCurdy, this one-shot will feature stories spotlighting LGBTQIA+ couples, specifically Clawdeen Wolf and Toralei Stripe as well as Spelldon Cauldronello and Kieran Valentine. 
 
Editor Riley Farmer teased what fans can expect in this new Monster High Pride special:
 
“I am so excited for this year’s Pride issue! While LGBTQIA+ characters are at the forefront of our Monster High comics throughout the year, Pride Month is a wonderful time to celebrate those characters. Toralei and Clawdeen (aka Toradeen) debuted as a couple in Pride 2024, and fans have been begging to know how they got together ever since. Jacque Aye and Siobhan Keenan are finally answering that question; hint: it involves a lot of math! Plus, Kieran Valentine and Spelldon (aka Spellentine) are back, thanks to Megan Brown and Bowen McCurdy! Fans have a lot of swoon-worthy moments, beautiful art, and inspirational stories coming their way–I hope they’re ready!”
 
In addition to the new Monster High Pride one-shot, May will also see the release of Monster High: New Scaremaster, first volume collection of the series. According to the publisher, fans can expect even more news about Monster High from IDW in 2025, so keep your eyes peeled!

Pride Month is upon us once again! As monsters gear up to skelebrate their LGBTQIA+ fiends, I have two defrightfully adorable pieces of gossip about two of Monster High’s favorite couples…
First, we all know and love the fiercest and most fashionable ghoulfriends: Clawdeen Wolf and Toralei Stripe, A.K.A. Toradeen. But how did they go from hisses to kisses? It’s simple math, really. Clawculus + a common enemy + forced proximity = the perfect love story. Nothing screams romance quite like math camp.

Then, Spelldon Cauldronello and Kieran Valentine are feariously couple goals. But my Criers tell me that dating as an emotional vampire can make things a bit awkward. Valentine’s powers are totally out of control, and he worries he might have accidentally hypnotized Spelldon to fall in love with him. That’s the only logical explanation for why he feels all warm and fuzzy inside…right?
