The Beat was on hand to chat with Writer & Director Antonio Campos (Christine) about his new film The Devil All the Time. Based on the novel of the same name by Donald Ray Pollock, the story follows a plethora of complex, twisted, and often unsavory characters in the backwoods of Ohio.
Rooted in the generational trauma passed on from Willard Russell (Bill Skarsgård, It) to his son Arvin (Tom Holland, The Impossible), the film also delves into the sins of Carl Henderson (Jason Clarke, First Man) and wife Sandy (Riley Keough, Magic Mike), crooked Sheriff Lee Bodecker (Sebastian Stan, I, Tonya), and the fine line that religion plays in people’s actions and sense of morality, particularly with the unethical preacher, Reverend Preston Teagardin (Robert Pattinson, Tenet).
Watch our exclusive chat with Antonio Campos about developing the screenplay from the novel, what drew him to Tom Holland for the lead role, and how his own experiences with religion drew him to this project.
