Vault Comics and Buckledown Brewing have joined forces to create the official Barbaric beer: Barbaric Blood Red Ale.

“This red ale starts off with authentic Pale Ale malt for a bready backbone, complemented by the robust spiciness of rye malt,” said Buckledown Brewing’s Joe Jung. “Chinook hops lend a subtle hint of pine aromatics, balancing this malty brew!”

The ale will be released to the public on Friday, December 15, and sold exclusively in four-packs at Chicagoland Binny’s Beverage Depot. It will also be available in draft at BuckleDown’s taproom.

The brewery and Barbaric writer/co-creator Michael Moreci will host a launch event for the beer at the brewery’s Lyons, IL tasting room location at 4:30 pm on launch day. Moreci will be on hand to chat about the Barbaric universe and to sign comics.

Barbaric is the best-selling Vault fantasy series co-created by Moreci and artist Nathan Gooden, selling hundreds of thousands of copies worldwide.

Barbaric Blood Red Ale

The story follows Owen, a bloodthirsty barbarian, and his drunk axe as they roam an untamed, mythic realm battling supernatural cultists, hungry giants, creatures of the night, and more in their quest to somehow, amidst all this chaos, do some good. A brand new Barbaric series, Barbaric: Born in Blood, launches in February 2024.

Buckledown Brewing is the founding brewery of the near-western Chicago suburbs.  Operated by Michelle and Ike Orcutt since 2013, the brewery features everything from hoppy IPAs to clean-drinking lagers. Their hand-built taproom is open seven days a week.
