Lily is a young girl who dreams of helping her father, Professor Hercules Fatchops, in his quest to build a flying machine. But they’ll have to speed up their efforts – and throw a bit of Lily’s magic into the science – to save the Pigdom from invading warthogs who have sophisticated flying machines. Together they will discover if….pigs can fly!

That’s the meme-busting premise behind Pigs Might Fly by Nick Abadzis and Jerel Dye, a new graphic novel due next year from First Second. It’s Abadzis’s first work at the publisher since his Eisner award winning Laika, the heartbreaking story of the dog who went to space.

This time out, Abadzis is just writing Pigs Might Fly while Dye does the art. He’s also currently writing the monthly Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor comic for Titan.

Jerel Dye has had stories in anthologies like Inbound, Minimum Paige, and the Winsor McCay tribute Dream Another Dream. In 2012, he received the MICE comics grant for his minicomic From the Clouds.

In addition to the exclusive cover reveal, above, here’s a preview of the book – it combines a Craig Thompson-ish fluid line with some classic anthropomorphic character designs for yet another good looking book from First Second.
