CaptainMarvelPhase4

Once again, we’re on the precipice of another big Marvel film, Captain Marvel, and this one is big; a sort-of prequel to Endgame while also being the first solo outing for an MCU heroine. Last night, the film screened for select members of the press and since the social media embargo has lifted, reactions are out in the wild. Based on the below, it looks like Kevin Feige and company have another huge success on their hands.

There’s no doubt in my mind that Carol’s first adventure was going to make a ton of money, but I’m glad to see people like it too. Our review will go up in a couple of weeks just ahead of release, be on the lookout, but in the meantime check out the below tweets to get a sense of the fun we might be in for, including what looks like the rare stand-out villain for this megafranchise:

  1. I came across a tweeted comment that sums things up nicely:

“Captain Marvel is a mainstream action movie with trailers that look like Air Force recruitment ads, but conservative guys are acting like it’s 2 hours of Brie Larson reading the Communist Manifesto while holding a Pride flag.”

  2. CUCKOLDING is something that feminists encourage.
The people who are bothered by the term cuck, who are on the left, socially, are admitting that they are uncomfortable with discarding gender norms, which they claim are harmful.

  3. “knew this was coming: trolls post fake reviews of Captain Marvel, giving it the lowest Rotten Tomatoes score of any MCU film:”

Isn’t Comicbook.com staffed by the type of progressives who want to push an oppression narrative even if that means fabricating oppression?

There’s nothing stopping progressives, you know, all women and all minorities, from posting their positive reviews online. They could easily eclipse any “trolls” with their reviews. Progressives are a permanent majority, after all.

  4. @boyswillbe…
Get a life, dude. No, progressives will not start bombing Rotten Tomatoes with fake positive reviews in order to… what exactly? What did the trolls bombing Ghostbusters and Last Jedi prove? Ultimately, the movie will stand on its own. I liked Jedi, Ghostbusters was meh, but the trolls just made fandom more poisonous and embarrassing. It’s a shame, because I like being a geek, but I need to emphasize that I’m not a comicsgator geek in real life, since the those types have made the whole of the community look so stupid.
Captain Marvel will stand on its own merit, and trolls (not “trolls”) will continue to be losers in their real lives, regardless.

  5. A fake review is one written by someone who hasn’t seen the movie, and posted weeks before the movie is released.

This has happened before (Wonder Woman, Black Panther, Last Jedi, the Ghostbusters reboot). By some stunning coincidence, it keeps happening with franchise movies that have female or POC protagonists.

“Progressives are a permanent majority, after all.”

If that were true, Hillary Clinton would be president. And we wouldn’t have a Senate and Supreme Court dominated by conservatives.

  6. ” By some stunning coincidence, it keeps happening with franchise movies that have female or POC protagonists.”

It never happened before people started politicizing these movies.

Saying that Black Panther proves everyone will watch movies with black leads or that movies with female leads can sell is nothing but political posturing and brainwashing.

Older fans know that Hollywood has produced successful movies with black casts and female leads in the past but younger viewers don’t know that and the point of social justice-themed reviews and marketing is rewrite history to make a movie appear more groundbreaking than it is.

“. No, progressives will not start bombing Rotten Tomatoes with fake positive reviews”
They don’t need to do that because the media is overwhelmingly made up of progressives who reinforce the marketing of the movie studios by saying, “yes, this movie will be groundrbreaking for ______”

    or…https://www.dailyrepublic.com/all-dr-news/wires/entertainment/spider-man-far-from-home-casts-two-transgender-actors-in-groundbreaking-move/

“Ultimately, the movie will stand on its own.”
If quality was all that matters, then movie studios would not have huge marketing budgets, would not have astrotuff reviewers to repeat their marketing.

Having numerous “reviewers” stating that Wakanda is what Africa would be like if white people hadn’t stolen all its wealth is not letting the Black Panther movie stand on its own..

” I need to emphasize that I’m not a comicsgator geek in real life,”
What did you say before that would lead anyone to believer that you are a comicsalligator?
    Why are you so paranoid?

“s have made the whole of the community look so stupid.”
Everyone who’s not a male feminist, or a white man constantly apologizing for slavery makes the community look stupid. The community is made up of activists posing as comic geeks in order to advance “social change”.

  7. “Older fans know that Hollywood has produced successful movies with black casts and female leads in the past …”

True, but there wasn’t an army of dudebros on the internet going berserk over franchises being “destroyed” by diversity. Their tantrums start BEFORE any “social justice-themed” reviews are in.

The anti-Last Jedi “crusade” was led by Russian bots and the same morons behind Comicsgate. It was not any sort of populist, grass-roots groundswell, regardless of what Breitbart says.

  8. “It never happened before people started politicizing these movies.”

This is a favorite right-wing canard: that pop culture (movies, comics, etc.) were apolitical escapism in the past, and there was no political analysis of pop culture, either. This is utter crap. Maybe you should read up on Charlie Chaplin and D.W. Griffith, and the responses to their movies in the silent era.

You are never going to get me to agree with this because it is a blatant lie.

Everyone could enjoy Charlie Chaplin whether they were capitalists or socialists.
    Same thing with Superman.

This infuriated moralists who wanted to harness popular media to promote THEIR values, whether they were Christian or Communist, or felt inferior to The Man, and needed to “deconstruct ” (revise history–lie–promote hatred of ) the Man to build up any sort of self esteem.

Progressives are the ones reading political/social contexts into everything.

In high school, a student lampooned this tendency by suggesting that all the sailors in Moby Dick were secretly homosexual. It seemed like a joke until I saw the extent to which academic analysis in the social sciences. Many accusations were based on subjective perception.

Take your subjective perception and put it you know where.

“True, but there wasn’t an army of dudebros on the internet going berserk over franchises being “destroyed” by diversity. Their tantrums start BEFORE any “social justice-themed” reviews are in.”

    Take your subjective perception

    AKA

    lies

and put it you know where.

  10. “boys will be girls,” your ignorance is amazing.

You obviously don’t know that Charlie Chaplin was basically run out of America for political reasons. Even before that, his films were banned in some cities (including my parents’ home, Memphis, Tenn.)

Many theaters refused to show his last two American films, “M. Verdoux” and “Limelight,” because he was regarded as a Communist at worst and a left-wing radical with a scandalous private life at best. His criticism of war profiteers in “Verdoux” was regarded as “the Red line” by conservative columnists.

Find a Chaplin biography and educate yourself.

  11. “Many theaters refused to show his last two American films, “M. Verdoux” an”
Chaplin’s MOVIES were not political, but his conduct was.
That’s different than saying his movies were always political.
Chaplin’s movies were not being banned for urging viewers to support international socialism.
The initial reactions to his movies were nowhere near as negative as when he took bold stances. His earlier movies being banned in the Deep South doesn’t support your argument since you provided no reason for Chaplin’s work being banned down there.

” he was regarded as a Communist”
    He probably was a Communist.
Communists in the arts later admitting to wanting to subvert traditional values. Subversion is cited as a common motivation for inserting politics into content
    .
However, Chaplin never got to do that because he never got a chance to make political work.He was not allowed to make propaganda. This allowed people to keep his beliefs and his work separate.

I don’t understand the point of you bringing up Chaplin in the light of your

    “entertainment was ALWAYS political” argument.
    Chaplin’s WORK clearly WASN’T.

  12. “boys,” I hope you’re having fun in the alternate universe you inhabit, which bears no resemblance to the real world.

  13. I could refute every absurd point you make, but I have better things to do than communicate with you. Go back to reading Breitbart and listening to Sean Hannity, little boy.

  14. “. Go back to reading Breitbart and listening to Sean Hannity, little boy.”
Ad hominems are a sign of a person who can’t refute anything anymore.
Both you and “Heidi” always reach for personal attacks when you run out out of arguments. Personal attacks, then swearing.

” I have better things to do”
No, you don’t. You really don’t have anything better than go back and forth with someone on why everything is and should be social justice propaganda.
In real life, when celebrities try to remain apolitical, the Georges and “Heidis” of this world scold them for not taking a stance.
