Ever wonder how Red Sonja earned the title She-Devil with a Sword? This June, writer Luke Lieberman (Red Sonja: Doom of the Gods), artist Sergio Davila (Conan, Project Superpowers), and colorist Ulises Arreola (Superman, Batgirl) bring you Red Sonja: Birth of the She-Devil, a limited series focused on an early chapter in Red Sonja’s past. With the help of her mentor Ozzyus, the fiery heroine is up against the demon conqueror Raka, whose alchemy has been turning men into thralls.
Lieberman explains, “This story is about her figuring out what kind of woman she wants to be, what she wants to do with her gift of violence. Sonja is a total badass but what makes her so compelling and iconic is her humanity. She sees the world for what it is and she is who she is unapologetically. She has already taken the worst Hyboria can dish out, so there is nothing left to fear. Despite this hardness, or perhaps because of it, she recognizes innocence as rare and precious and she will protect it.”
Each issue of the series will feature three unique covers: a gorgeous painted version by Lucio Parrillo (Vampirella, Queen Sonja), one by interior artist Davila, and a third cosplay option featuring fan favorite Shannon Kingston.
Issue #1 is slated to release in June. Preorder with your favorite comic shop this April. If you prefer digital, check it out on Comixology, Kindle, iBooks, Google Play, Dynamite Digital, ComicsPlus, and more.
