On Saturday, August 29th, 2020, Forbidden Planet 42 will celebrate the forty-second anniversary of the legendary UK-based comic shop with a free online event open to the public: just bookmark this page at the other end of this link and check it out this weekend!
The free, no-RSVP event will be hosted by Forbidden Planet’s Andrew Sumner, and a star-studded list of the stores customers and friends will be making appearances, including Ben Aaronovich, Brian Bolland, Alice Cooper, Chris Claremont, DMC, Garth Ennis, Neil Gaiman, Dave Gibbons, Dirk Maggs, Mark Millar, Michael Moorcock, Simon Pegg, Jonathan Ross, William Shatner, V.E. Schwab, Dan Slott, Kevin Smith, and Gerard Way. You can see the full trailer for the event here:
Never fear, hoopy froods: Forbidden Planet is well aware of the significance of anniversary number 42! Included in the festivities will be a never-before-released recording of Gaiman interviewing the late Douglas Adams, author of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency novels. The rare interview was recently uncovered from the Forbidden Planet vaults.
The event has already teased some very exciting material, including an interview about the earliest days of the development of Sandman with Leigh Baulch.

Baulch played an important role in the early days of Sandman, introducing Gaiman to cover artist Dave McKean. Plus, Baulch was behind some of the earliest Sandman designs, including a Morpheus influenced by a particular late rock legend and the first illustration of Morpheus in the distinctive helm. And as though that weren’t already plenty of claims to fame, Baulch also has the distinction of being the first artist to depict one of the most enduring characters in comics, Death.
It’s all happening on Saturday at Forbidden Planet’s website. Which of the celebrity guests and creators are you most excited to see?
