Get ready to celebrate Life Day in style: on November 17th, 2020, The Lego Star Wars Holiday Special will premiere on Disney+.

The Lego Star Wars Holiday Special pays homage to The Star Wars Holiday Special, the infamous CBS holiday special that aired on November 17th, 1978. The kitschy live-action 1970s special saw Chewbacca, the famous Wookiee co-pilot of the Millennium Falcon, attempting to return home to the planet Kashyyyk so he could celebrate the traditions of Life Day with his family. As Chewie and Han Solo attempted to evade Imperial Forces on their way to Kasyyyk, a series of skits and musical numbers showed Chewie’s family preparing for the festivities.

Released between the original Star Wars (1977) and The Empire Strikes Back (1980), the original Star Wars Holiday Special is infamous for being considered “non-canonical” by George Lucas. Nevertheless, the special was responsible for introducing the character of Boba Fett, the titular Mandalorian who launched a million action figures (and eventually, The Mandalorian, the flagship Disney+ Star Wars series).

The gang is all on the (decorated) Falcon!

The brand-new Lego Star Wars Holiday Special will feature characters from the most recent Star Wars trilogy and will be set after The Rise of Skywalker on the timeline. According to the announcement on USA Today, the story follows Rey Skywalker and her droid companion BB-8 as they head off to study the Force (just like Luke did after Return of the Jedi). But a pit stop at a Jedi Temple leads to some time travel shenanigans – including some cameos from your favorite (late) Star Wars characters.

Now THIS is podracing (check out the dunes in the background)!

The preview images for the Lego Star Wars Holiday Special feature heroes of the Resistance like Rose Tico and Finn the Force User, and while no official casting has been announced, executive producer Josh Rimes told USA Today that some of the movie actors would be reprising their roles.

“Step one: we stir the mixture…”

Plus, Rimes teased that some of the characters from the original Special may even make an appearance. I think we all know who I’m hoping for… Let us know who you want to see in the comments!
