DC Comics June 2020 release schedule sticks to Tuesdays

DC Comics June 2020 release schedule went live today, and the publisher is sticking with Tuesdays for new books for another month.

The entire DC Comics June 2020 schedule can be found below, and it contains flagship books for DC, such as Batman #92, the big summer event Dark Nights: Metal #1, and the YA release Wonder Woman: Tempest Tossed. What is, however, perhaps more intriguing for watchers of the industry is that DC Comics is continuing to schedule its new products for release on Tuesdays.

This, of course, is a major shift from the normal Wednesday release that has defined the direct market at least as long as I can remember. This shift to Tuesdays is part of a chain reaction set off by the outbreak of COVID-19. To recap: at the end of March, the lone North American distributor for the comics direct market essentially shut down, throwing the timeline for new releases into chaos. DC Comics was the first major publisher to get new physical releases scheduled again, doing so by going outside of Diamond to a pair of alternate distributors. They started trickling new books out the last Tuesday in April, throughout May, and now its continuing into June.

The publisher has not definitively stated in public that Tuesday would be its new day of release moving forward, but at this point — with most of the industry returning to Diamond and Wednesday releases — one has to wonder.

Meanwhile, questions also remain about whether local comic book stores are open and operating, given large segments of the U.S. population remain under shelter-in-place orders to safely stem the curve of the virus.
