Today marks the start of Black History Month. In celebration, DC Comics is spotlighting its Black Super Heroes and creative talent through Black History Month variant covers, and a some brand-new BHM-themed art by artist Alitha Martinez (Nubia and the Amazons) and colorist Emilio Lopez, plus the heroes from Milestone’s Dakotaverse by Icon & Rocket: Season One artist Doug Braithwaite.

In addition, the Milestone Initiative program, announced during DC FanDome, begins in full swing as the inaugural class will soon be officially announced as well as more updates.

The Milestone Initiative

Announced during DC FanDome 2021, DC and Milestone Media, along with Ally, announced The Milestone Initiative, a program created to identify, develop and mentor aspiring comic book professionals of color. Applicants selected for the Milestone Talent Development Program will receive both in-person tutelage from working comic book professionals, in addition to virtual education through the prestigious Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art. After study, attendees will be paired with other comic book professionals to create new, original stories within the Milestone Universe.
