DC has been combining all sorts of strange characters from old television shows with the Batman ’66 Adam West in the publisher’s digital-first offerings on Comixology and later on in print. In the tradition of Green Hornet and The Man from U.N.C.L.E. comes a pairing with The Avengers. No, not those Avengers, Steed and Mrs. Peel of the acclaimed British television series from 1961.

This comic book will see a collaboration between each publisher who controls the license for the character, including BOOM! Studios hold on Steed and Mrs. Peel and DC’s authority over Batman. The project is being written with Ian Edginton (Hinterkind) with art from Michael Dow Smith (Doctor Who) with covers from the legendary Michael Allred (Silver Surfer). CBR ran the press release, cover and solicitation. The series debuts June 8 and has a 12-issue bi-weekly shipping schedule.

Steed and Mrs. Peel first appeared in the television series, The Avengers in 1961 and ran for a total of six seasons spanning over 161 episodes. The series switched main characters after one of the leads, Dr. David Keel played by Ian Hendry left the television show, promoting John Steed played Patrick Macnee to the lead of the series. Emma Peel played by Diana Rigg first entered the show in 1965 as Steed’s assistant in solving crimes. Steed and Mrs. Peel have a fun comic book history with runs from acclaimed authors like Grant Morrison (Doom Patrol) and Mark Waid (Daredevil).

  1. Hi,

My surname’s EDGINTON not HEDGINTON. The correct spelling’s right there on the same page in the list of credits.

    Thanks!

  2. Michael Gough played Diabolical Mastermind Dr. Clement Armstrong, creator of .The Cybenauts, which arguably is the most famous episode of The Avengers.. And, yeah, he had some role in the Tim Burton Batman movies, too, IIRC.
