It’s been 40 years since Chris Claremont‘s and John Byrne‘s Dark Phoenix Saga changed the X-Men forever, and love for the legendary storyline continues to persist. On Wednesday, Marvel revealed a series of Dark Phoenix 40th anniversary variants for upcoming Dawn of X titles, as well as a list of future variants that have yet to be revealed.

According to the press release, celebrations are also planned for Claremont’s upcoming 50th anniversary with the publisher; in case you missed it, he talked about his history with Marvel at New York Comic Con — and teased a possible return to writing comics.

The Dark Phoenix 40th anniversary variants include Jean Grey’s psychic battle with Emma Frost, the X-Men’s moon battle against the Shi’ar Imperial Guard, and more. Check out the first five covers below and stay tuned for the next wave, which will feature seven covers for Marauders #5, X-Men #6, Excalibur #6, Marauders #6, Fallen Angels #6, New Mutants #6, and X-Force #6.
