The latest cinematic iteration of Mike Mignola’s Hellboy is due in theaters this April, and Dark Horse Comics announced today that they are set to publish an accompanying art book for the film. Hellboy: The Art of the Motion Picture will feature concept art and photos from the making of the movie.

The Neil Marshall-directed Hellboy is the second time the character and his supporting cast have been brought to the big screen. Guillermo Del Toro directed a pair of Hellboy films in 2004 and 2008, respectively. Art books for both of the Del Toro movies were released at the time, though they are both subtitled The Art of the Movie, so hopefully that won’t be confusing for anyone looking for this newer art book.

There’s no shortage of Hellboy art books coming this year, as Dark Horse announced last week a new collection of over 150 covers from across the character’s 25-year history. That book will feature art by Mignola, Duncan Fegredo, and others.

Check out the cover to Hellboy: The Art of the Motion Picture below, and look for it in stores on April 9th, three days ahead of Hellboy‘s arrival in theaters on April 12th.

MILWAUKIE, Ore., (February 6, 2019)—Dark Horse Comics will publish Hellboy: The Art of the Motion Picture, a gorgeously designed hardcover book that showcases concept art and set photography to offer a behind-the-scenes look at one of the most highly anticipated films of 2019. The book offers an inside look at the creation of the film with nearly one thousand pieces of art and photography in 200 full-color pages. Hellboy: The Art of the Motion Picture will be published on April 9, 2019, ahead of the release of the Neil Marshall’s Hellboy film starring David Harbour, Sasha Lane, Ian McShane, Penelope Mitchell, Daniel Dae Kim and Milla Jovovich. Based on the acclaimed Hellboy comic books and graphic novels created by Mike Mignola, Lionsgate’s Summit Entertainment label will release Hellboy nationwide on April 12, 2019.

For nearly 25 years, Mignola and a host of celebrated writers and artists have chronicled the adventures of Hellboy facing his supposed destiny as Beast of the Apocalypse, and explored the mysterious backstories of B.P.R.D. agents including Professor Trevor Bruttenholm and Abe Sapien. Recently, for the first time ever, Dark Horse Books published Mignola’s award-winning Hellboy stories in chronological order with the HELLBOY OMNIBUS COLLECTION, creating the definitive reading experience for Hellboy fans and an ideal entry point for new readers. Dark Horse Books also has published a specially priced edition of the graphic novel, Hellboy: The Wild Hunt, which serves as the source material for the upcoming motion picture.

Hellboy has appeared in graphic novels and comic books, prose novels and short story collections, two animated features, two live action films, toy lines and all manner of merchandise. Neil Marshall’s forthcoming Hellboy film starring David Harbour, Sasha Lane, Ian McShane, Penelope Mitchell, and Milla Jovovich will be released by Lionsgate on April 12, 2019.

Hellboy: The Art of the Motion Picture is on sale for $39.99 and is available for pre-order on Amazon and your local comic shop. For more information about Hellboy: The Art of the Motion Picture, the Mignolaverse comic books and graphic novels, follow the company on TwitterFacebook and Instagram.
