This week we’re checking out an anthology featuring creators with autism, Sensory, the African horror graphic novel, Kokou, and more.

KOKOU – The World’s First BONZO Graphic Novel!

KOKOU is an African horror graphic novel by acclaimed writer Ziki Nelson, creator of Disney’s upcoming series Iwájú.

Kokou is a dark fantasy comic set in a 13th century world, spanning West Africa to the Middle East. It derives its lore from a huge array of cultures within those boundaries, telling a story about a single warrior trying to prove himself through battle against supernatural beings known as the Djinn. Kokou is set to be around 120-paegs of black-and-white art, available in digital, paper and hardback versions. For more on the lore, and a look at interiors, head over to the campaign page.

SENSORY: Life on the Spectrum

Sensory is an Autistic Comic Anthology. 

In anticipation of Autism awareness month, a group of 30 autistic creators have banded together for Sensory, a 140-page anthology raising awareness, dispelling stigmas, encouraging conversation, and more. Stories generally focus on authors’ experiences, and also include information for neurotypical readers as well as those who may be on the spectrum, but don’t know yet. Adventuring Without a Permit follows four goofballs in their efforts to earn all the money they need to get licensed and get adventuring, illustrated with an emotive fantasy style. The beloved slice-of-life Webtoon, My Husband’s a Werewolf, is coming to print with this Kickstarter. Jay and his husband Lake – the titular husband, that is – are happily in love, and the story follows them as they navigate the unique world of human/werewolf relationships. Backers will receive the physical version as well as the updated PDF. In the meantime, check out the story thus far for free, over on Webtoon.

Dead Eyes is being reprinted in a special Kickstarter campaign including the comic’s first arc, along with commentary from the creators, a special hardcover, scripts, and all sorts of behind-the-scenes goodies. The series picks back up in 2021, and this artbook – already 80% finished – is due to be in backers’ hands this October.
