ComiXology just announced that they are making an announcement on June 1st, one billed as epic and involving “major comic book writers and artists.” It’s coming from ComiXology Originals, ComiXology’s original content arm, which has mostly been putting out tie-in comics.
I understand this is to be something a LOT bigger. In fact, perhaps why some of your favorite cartoonists have been mumbling when asked what they’ve been working on for the last while may be answered by this announcements.
At least based on the graphic accompanying the PR, there will be cats and trolls in whatever it is, so that is all good. Maybe robots too. And possibly a monkey?
Whatever it is, we’ll be learning it via a livestream on Twitch.tv/Twitch at 2pm PDT/5pm EDT on June 1. The livestream will be hosted by noted esports personality Marcus “djWHEAT” Graham.
But consumers can participate in person by attending viewing parties at their nearest Amazon Pop-Up or Amazon Books retail locations. And for those who attend, there will be giveaways – while supplies last.
Digital comics sales are widely thought to have “plateaued” a while ago. Will this be the jolt that gets things going again?
