After the success of last year’s collection, Comic Arts LA (CALA) and Arts for Incarcerated Youth Network (AIYN) have joined forces again for another Comics Drive for LA. The groups are collecting donations of comics and graphic novels in good condition for several incarcerated youth facilities throughout Southern California. They are also working with youth services librarians for those facilities that are in need of books.

CALA is a free public event that promotes appreciation for comics, graphic novels, and sequential arts for the Los Angeles public. The organization also hopes to foster relationships among creators and readers as well as an inclusive, creative space for building a community and discovering new works.

AIYN is an interdisciplinary collaborative that offers arts programming to transform the juvenile justice system. The group focuses on arts education, collaboration, advocacy, and training, and “envisions a future where youth are empowered and the systems that serve them are transformed by using arts as a foundational strategy and catalyst for change.”

If you are interested in donating comics and graphic novels to the drive, head to CALA’s website for donation dropoff location information and for more on the event. Follow both organizations on Twitter for updates: @AIYNetwork and @ComicArtsLA
