This week, we’re checking out two different takes on doggos: the first is LOUD and is about a cute puppy, and the second is The Preserve, which is about lots of very scary puppies if the cover is anything to judge from.

Nenetel is a story of a lost soul that suddenly finds itself out of place – in the land of the living. That soul, a girl named Nena, makes it her goal to find just one person who remembers her and might even invite her to the Day of the Dead festival, all while being hunted by a group of exorcists hot on her trail. The book is beautifully illustrated and colored by Müller in a prestige format collecting 92-pages of story.

The Ultimate guide to surviving the first year of your puppy’s life: The comic book.

Look, you saw that cover image. Loud is a comic about a puppy and I’m not sure how you can pair that with Breault’s art and not want to back this campaign. It’s a true story of a very anxious German Shepherd named Chappie and his owners’ journey in finding him the help he needs. It’s 200 pages of story, structured as a 12 chapter, month-by-month retelling of Chappie’s first year with his new family.

The Plague and Doctor Caim

A darkly comic graphic novel about a 17th century plague doctor by G.E. Gallas.

The Plague and Doctor Caim is for all the history nerds out there. This graphic novel is designed and written following heavy research on 17th century sources. The good Doctor Caim only uses historically (and comedically) accurate treatments, and the pages are made to resemble illuminated manuscripts. It’s a 112-page, full color comic of “an Everyman with a beak,” and is ready for production and distribution as soon as it meets its funding goals.

The Preserve # 1 (Monster Hunting Sci-fi Comic)!

An old hunter and a young artist will have to team up to win the international monster-hunting sport known as The Preserve!

Monster-hunting action gets a face-lift in The Preserve: a brand-new mini-series exploring gentrification in sports through a near-future setting where hunters battle man-made monsters for massive audiences. The story follows Winston, a hunter, and Rachel, an “artist,” which means she’s responsible for designing the aforementioned monsters for competitors to hunt. From artist Hayley Gold and The Maze of Games team comes a double-sided, solvable 128-page comic book loaded with crossword puzzles. 

Do you wake up uncertain as to whether you should read a comic or try out the crossword? Well you’re in luck. Letters to Margaret is the best of both worlds, one story of two characters – told from both of their perspectives. Solve crosswords alongside one character, then flip the book around for a new set of words and a different side of the story.
