Old Man Grey – A One-shot Horror Comic

Old Man Grey

Creators: Steven Ingram
Goal: $1,214
End Date: August 31, 2022
Goodies: Physical and PDF version, previous graphic novels by Ingram (Holly and Left), and A5 sketches (the artist has the right of refusal)

A 24-page horror comic. When you break down in the middle of nowhere, accepting help from the locals may not be the safe option.

What if Annie Wilkes wasn’t part of the cultural lexicon? When your car breaks down in the middle of nowhere, would you accept help from a strange local? Or would you worry she was your Number One Fan? This badger wants to know. I guess we all need to read the comic to find out!

Allison Strange

Allison Strange

Creators: Aaron Segman (writer), Luis Silva (editor), Joelle Blot (artist), and Zip Alegria (artist)
Goal: $1,100
End Date: September 2, 2022
Goodies: Digital or print edition

In the vast wilderness of Alaska, a gas station worker with a penchant for solving problems finds a trove of paranormal artifacts.

From Creatively Queer Press, an indie publisher that focuses on LGBTQ+ and BIPOC stories, Allison Strange is set in Inside Passage, Alaska a real region described as “an unexplored counterpart to Stephen King‘s Maine.” Well, Creatively Queer marketing team, I recently binged BOTH adaptations of King’s The Stand and watched Castle Rock… And when it comes to the King of Horror, I doubt I am the only person whose interest is piqued when there is a King comparison (that takes guts!) in marketing material, especially when it seems like the comparison is well deserved: the art in Allison Strange draws my eye, and there is something materially interesting about the story.

Indigiverse: Dark Heart #1

Goodies: PDF or print edition of Dark Heart #1, or choose a bundle with an Indigiverse tee-shirt printed on a high-quality Gildan black tee-shirt

The Indigiverse begins here! An Aboriginal Superhero Universe from the vision of Gooniyandi-Miriuwung Gajerrong man Scott Wilson.

Crowdfunding is an easy way for comic fans to support diverse creators, like Indigiverse visionary Scott Wilson, so that we can continue to see more diversity in our comic book characters. Wilson, a Gooniyandi-Miriuwung Gajerrong man, told Australia’s National Indigenous Times that he hopes his Dark Heart series will respect and celebrate Aboriginal culture. “The language is one of the biggest things because I want to preserve the language with it with the actual glossary within the book,” he told the outlet, adding that the comic will feature Kriol and Gooniyandi language. Cool feature, right?

The next installment of the Mexicans-with-swords meets Aztec Mythology comic set during the iconic Cinco de Mayo Battle of Puebla.

Learn more about one of the most bastardized holidays in the United States, Cinco de Mayo. The day marks the Battle of Puebla in 1862, which was part of the second French Intervention in Mexico (read The Mary Sue to learn more about this historical moment’s importance to this comic). Not only is the comic steeped in Mexican myth and history, but it is also brought to you by an incredibly talented team of creators.
