Welcome to this week’s Comics Crowdfunding Round-Up! This week’s selection of projects includes mythical creatures, murders, and cute animals, among other things. Let’s get right into it!
Trickster
Creators: Neil Gibson and Conor McCreery (writers), Veronica Saraceno (artist)
Goal: $5,000
End Date: October 6th, 2021
Goodies: Digital and physical copies, variant covers, commissions, signed books, and a 30-minute Zoom with the writers
TRICKSTER is a funny, fast-paced horror-comedy series — a sometimes dark look at a “man” who never believed he could be a leader, until he finally chooses to become one.
Honestly this just sounds cool. Gibson and McCreery wrote ‘dueling scripts’ for the comic, about a banished leprechaun who becomes a bartender in Boston. The crowdfunded edition includes the full first issue, a preview of the second issue, and additional behind-the-scenes content.
Seal Comics by Shanghai Cartoonist Wang XX
Creators: Wang Fanqiao (cartoonist)
Goal: $6,000
End Date: September 28th, 2021
Goodies: Digital and physical copies, plushies, a beach towel and bucket hat, and the chance to be named a co-publisher of the book
Available for the first time in English, this volume collects a few poignant stories from the beloved series.
I like seals. Honestly that’s all it took to get me interested in this one. Wang XX’s artwork is also adorable, and even just seeing a few panels in the preview made me laugh out loud. Look, all I want are comics about cute anthropomorphic seals. Let’s make this happen.
Glamorella’s Daughter #3
Creators: Jerry Bennett (artist), Charles Martin (script, letters), Tintin Pantoja (variant cover artist), Literati Press (publisher)
Goal: $1,500
End Date: September 23rd, 2021
Goodies: Digital and physical copies of the new issue, bundles of all three issues, Kickstarter-exclusive variants, and virtual class visits from the creative team
Comet goes to a birthday party, Glamorella has a PR problem, and Emmett is in trouble, all in the action-packed third issue!
Maybe it’s the recent launch of the slice-of-life Batman Webtoon that has this front of mind, but I’m really into comics with just a nice family element to them, and this looks to have that baked in to the concept. It just looks like a sweet story featuring a diverse cast of characters.
Heartland Blood #1: A Gripping Family Drama
Creators: Michael Pickard (writer), Nate Wells (artist),
Goal: $3,500
End Date: October 8th, 2021
Goodies: Physical and digital copies of the first issue of the series
Laura Baker must grapple with the heritage of family, and blood sucking vampires, when she returns to her childhood home.
I’m a pretty easy mark for crime comics, and this one looks to have a nice Brubaker & Phillips vibe to it, but with a supernatural twist to it. This campaign is to fund the first issue of a four-issue miniseries.
Millennium: Volume One
Creators: Deo Iadicicco (cartoonist)
Goal: $3,500
End Date: October 9th, 2021
Goodies: Digital and print copies of the collection, stickers, keychains, pins, and more
Two truckers save the universe from an evil scientist, one friend at a time
This campaign is for a print edition of Deo Iadicicco’s Webtoon series. Maybe I’ve just got Webtoons on the brain. Thanks, Batman! But this looks like a lot of fun, with great art and an all-LGBTQ+ cast of characters.
